A New Beginning

My coaching career has been more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. I’ve coached some great young men. I’ve coached some really talented players. I’ve had great coaching staffs. I’ve met wonderful people. All together, we have had some truly extraordinary teams. Then something happened to me, in all honesty, I thought was never in the cards. I was sacked about a year ago. (Just to be clear, using “sacked” is funny to me. This is not feel sorry for the sacked coach, this is this sacked coach has a new perspective). Still, I’ve spent most of this time between jobs feeling sorry for myself. I needed to get out of my rut.

Some positive things have happened during this time in my life. I’ve crushed a ton of TV, Movies, and Books. Taught myself how to cook. I’ve been able to spend most of my time caring for my girls. The only problem, I closed myself off from pretty much everyone else. I felt sorry for myself and ignored most of the people in my life. If it weren’t for my girls, I’d probably still be in my funk. Shelly and Emme felt like I have something to say and they gave me the courage to see if this archive of thoughts can open new doors.

Thanks Shelly and Emme.

Some other directions this blog might go? I’ve really immersed myself into cooking. I think this has served as my outlet while not coaching. Coaching is about loving your players. Cooking allows me to show love in other ways. Yes, that’s corny, However, we might see some cooking analogies. Its a fresh start. Consider me one of The Other Guys, a Febreze Brother.

My daughter has offered several “suggestions” about this project. If you have a daughter you know why I put that word in quotes. She mentioned that I like to use pop culture references when I speak. She has encouraged me to use them when I write, she feels it will help make my blog more relatable. Emme, my editor and social media manager, “You wouldn’t have this website without me, and you can quote me on that,” she said. Tough crowd.

Most of all, I want to thank my wife Shelly. Your hard work affords me the opportunity to work on this project. You are my best friend. We’ve had some incredible experiences in our lives, experiences that you made possible. You take care of all of us. We need to take better care of you. I love you.
